July 1, 2016. Chicago (ONN) This popular event is called the Square Roots Craft Brew and Music Festival. Located on the north side of Chicago, the Square Roots fest takes place in Ravenswood’s Lincoln Square neighborhood. It’s a local marriage of beer and music, with local brewers and local performers being the stars. Add in 4 stages, food, and a market with loads of local businesses showcasing their offerings, and you have the Square Roots Festival.

A recent announcement from festival organizers began, ‘The Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce and Old Town School of Folk Music present the 5th annual Square Roots craft beer and music experience in Chicago’s Lincoln Square. More than 30,000 fans attend Square Roots each year to enjoy more than 40 local craft brews, great food and the diverse genres of entertainment that only the Old Town School of Folk Music can provide.’

If music is your thing, Square Roots boasts 4 stages – 2 indoor, 2 outdoor – and 70 acts performing music, jams, dance and family activities. Some of the performers include: Taj Weekes, Debo Band, Lydia Loveless, Squid Pro Quo, Shauit, Israel Nash, BLT and literally dozens more.

If trying out local craft beers is more your style, the festival will feature roughly 40 local beers brewed by area breweries. They include offerings from companies such as: Two Brothers, Half Acre Beer Company, 5 Rabbit, Lagunitas, Revolution, Founders and a host of others.

Finally, if your stomach is growling for some great food, Square Roots fest includes food vendors made up of neighborhood restaurants. Just some of the Ravenswood businesses participating in the festival are: Bistro Campagne, Luella’s, Byron’s Hot Dogs, Miku Sushi, Screamin’ Sicilian Pizza, Taco in a Bag, and many more.

Proceeds from Square Roots benefit small business workshops and community place-making efforts, and fund the Old Town School of Folk Music scholarship programs.

Square Roots fest will take place Friday through Sunday, July 8-10 in the Lincoln Square area of Chicago’s north side Ravenswood neighborhood. The specific location stretches along Lincoln Avenue from Wilson Ave. to Montrose Ave. (4560 N to 4400 N). The festival is open on Friday from 5-10, on Saturday from noon to 10, and on Sunday from noon to 9pm.
