October 5, 2015. Chicago. (ONN) If it’s October, you can bet Chicago’s northside theater district is alive with ghosts, ghouls, witches and plenty of Halloween-themed shows. This year is no different at Stage 773 theater on Belmont. The One Act Festival – Halloween Edition runs throughout the month. And the Chicago Horror Theater Festival picks up at the end of October to ring in Halloween. If you’re looking to add a little humor to your Halloween horrors, look no further than Stage 773.

One Act Festival – Halloween Edition
Beginning October 9th and playing each Friday in October, Stage 773 presents the One Act Festival – Halloween Edition. “Boo! It’s almost Fall,” an announcement from Stage 773 alerted theater-goers and Halloween-lovers alike, “The One Act Festival: Halloween Edition line-up is announced.” They go on to say, “Seven theatre companies thrill your Friday night with a Halloween, haunted, or horror themed one act. This third installment of the Stage 773 One Act Festival features spook-tacular stories…The talent in this festival production, sharing a single stage, is downright scary.”
Each Friday this month, the seven theater companies will combine to create a night made up of a series of 15-minute comedy sketches. The only rules are that each sketch must be Halloween-themed and produced with the unique style of each respective ensemble. The seven participating theater companies are:

The Chicago Horror Theater Festival
Right on the heels of the One Act Festival – Halloween Edition comes the Chicago Horror Theater Festival. As detailed by producers, The Chicago Horror Theater Festival is, ‘The nation’s only celebration of the murderous and macabre performed live onstage. This first-of-its-kind festival will feature performances ranging from sketch comedy, cabaret, dance, burlesque, and one act and full length plays – all with a Halloween or horror theme.’
The week-long show is produced by the Cowardly Scarecrow Theatre Company and the creators of the multi-award winning Musical of the Living Dead, Marc Lewallen and Brad Younts. The festival will include shows from Chicago favorites such as pH Productions, Matter Dance, sketch comedy from Rabbit, Rabbit, and two world premiere new shows from Lewallen and Younts, Musical Horror Story: Exorcism and The Haunted Life.’
The production runs for two weekends between October 29th and November 7th. There will also be four performances on Halloween night alone, with the first kicking off at 6:00pm and the final show of the night starting at 11:00pm. For more information, visit the show’s web page.
